Information on Water Testing

Recent events in the news have highlighted water conditions in several cities across this country. Additionally, during the recent New York State legislation session, a bill was passed specifically pertaining to water testing in school districts.
With that in mind, the Lyme Central School District has had the school building tested for lead in the water. This action was taken in advance of any legal requirements in order to determine building locations with lead levels that needed to be addressed prior to the 2016-17 school year.
The technical guidance for sampling was the 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water in Schools written by the United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). This document identifies typical locations for sampling for school districts.
The results of the testing revealed lead concentration above the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement of 15 ppb (part per billion) for water suppliers. While the district is not a water supplier, we are addressing any location that is above that level.
The district is in the process of replacing the two (2) fixtures that were elevated. Again, those faucets are currently out of service. Once those fixtures have been replaced, resampling will occur to verify the remediation success.
